Summary
[edit]DescriptionLetter, 22 November 1944, page 3 of 4.jpg |
English: "Ridge. Don't ever sell the Japs short. They are mean, tenacious and from all appearances intend to prolong this war until the last Jap is dead.
The Marines were very splendid at Palau, but they took a very severe beating. A good deal more severe than the papers indicated. I am sending you an envelope containing some pictures. The three small pictures are part of a set I am collecting showing the effectiveness of the M-1 flame thrower. The three drawings are copies of water colors one of the boys of my old battery now has on exhibition depicting the action on Vela la Vela. The other two are self explanatory." From the Edward L. Parke Collection (COLL/5627) at the Archives Branch, Marine Corps History Division OFFICIAL USMC PHOTOGRAPH |
