"Brooklyn Jan. 14, 1864 My Dear Parents, Janey's welcomed and interesting letter reached me this morning, and really glad I was to hear Mother was recovering as I had discouraging accounts from Alick in regards to her illness. I am surprised you have not received my letters, but in future I shall not trust to the post carriers, but take them down to the General Post Office myself. We are kept very busy at present having several prisoners under sentence of court martial to take care of. Hardly a day passes that some poor unfortunate fellow is not brought..." From the Charles H.
