English: "...folks from Bridgeton and Philada were down. I would like to have been there, but think I will defer my visit to a more convenient season, when business gets slack again. The 1st Lieutenant has just passed the word on the Berth Deck, for anyone who has things ashore, to get them on board by 1 o'clock, so I suppose we are going to haul in the stream this afternoon, and indeed I am not sorry for the musquitos are very annoying lying at the Navy Yard. As my Duff is nearly ready and the Cook anxious to set the table I will come to a close promising however to add a postscript if the steamer should not arrive for a day or two, and I am not too busy.
My best love to all the family, and if you write to the Boys (including Sammy) give my love to them and say I will write as soon an opportunity offers. Kiss "Lou" for me and tell her to be a good girl, but that I know she is. Hoping this may find Father, Mother, Sallie and all enjoying good health.
