Description: Portrait des quatre fils de Phan Thanh Gian (1796-1867). Ce dernier était l'un des principaux mandarins de la cour de Hué. Il a joué un rôle important dans les négociations qui aboutirent au traité de Saigon, en 1862, permettant la création de la colonie de Cochinchine. Il fut également envoyé en ambassade en Paris en 1863. À cette occasion, à la demande de Napoléon III, lui et son ambassade furent photographiés par Jacques-Philippe Potteau.
