On apperçoit auffi derrière un fût de Colonne , unmorceau de Bouclier : écrites partie fur cette Colonne , partiefur le mur , on lit ces lettres mal formées D I D V. Tous cesdétails dénotent vraifemblablement un tombeau de guerrier, PlancheXCV. Ce petit Sujet de forme quarrée, nefl: pas difficile à ex-pliquer, qnoique les différens objets foient vaguement peints.On y voit pluûeurs figures dans une pofture fuppliante & re-ligieufe devant la flatue de quelque Divinité. Cet objet de vé-nération eft drelTé fur un pilaftre près dun Temple ou autreédifice rufiique, &. ombragé dun arbre. Non loin de-là , ondiflingue auffi une efpèce dHermès. Dans le fond du Tableau,on foupçonne encore deux autres ftatues fur un pont. La ftaïue de la Divinité repréfente peut-être un Priape, ou«ne Diane ; lépieu ou le rofeau qui laccompagne , donne lieuà cette conjeûure.

Reticulum:des cercles dor lui fervent de pendans doreilles. Trois rangsde perles compofent fon collier : fon vêtement de deffous eftverd , & celui de defTus rouge : de la main droite elle porte unftilet de couleur de fer , & en approche de fes lèvres la pointecomme pour lhumeûer ; ou feulement par un mouvement in-volontaire qui caraftérife une perfonne qui fe recueille & méditeavant décrire : de fa main gauche , elle porte un livre fermé &dont la couverture eft jaune. Ne feroit-ce pas Sappho, préludantà quelquune de ces aimables compofuions , dont les fragmensfeuls ont fait venir jufquà nous fon nom avec tant déloge >La coëffure de cette agréable figure nou
