On voit fur un fond blanc un jeune homme nud pardevant,~le dos couvert dune clamyde violette , & agraffée fur fon épauledroite. Ses cheveux font rangés & alTujettis derrière fa tête avecun ruban dont on apperçoit les bouts. Il tient avec fes deux mainsun vafe de couleur dor, & qui na quune anfe. Cette figurenefl pofée fur rien, Ainfi que la fuivante, elle a été tirée des excavations deGragnano , le 9 Mai 1760. Planche XLVIII.

(73)- Planche XLVIII. Cette autre figure de jeune homme eft peinte encore fur unfond blanc & ne pofe fur rien. Elle eft habillée de même dunefimple clamyde de couleur changeante. Sa chevelure eft pro-prement peignée. Elle porte à la main droite une efpèce déven-tail , compofé de plumes , qui femblent appartenir à un paon.Le manche eft orné de deux cercles dor. De la main gaucheelle tient une couronne radiée , & dor aufli. Ce neft pas la première fois que nous rencontrons des éven-tails fur les monumens antiques. Nous en avons déjà vu un danune peinture de notre tome II. Celui que nous avons fous les yeuxeft de la forme de ceux dont on fe fert ordinairement pourchafler les mouches de deffus les viandes. Les Anciens connoif-foient aufli léventail, compofé de petites planchettes de boistrès-minces. On en faifoit encore dautre matière, & on les pei-gnoit de diverfes couleurs. Il y en avoit aufli qui étoient tiflusdofiers , ou formés dun affemblage de plumes
