Description

Cold War era West German Main Battle Tank Chassis Serial No 18016. Canadian Army registration 78-85137. Official designation:- Leopard 1A5 Main Battle Tank. Manufacturer:- Porsche Built ( all Leopard 1):- 1965 to 1984 Total Leopard 1 Production:- 6,565 Main Armament:- 105mm Royal Ordnance L7A3 L/52 rifled gun. The Canadian Leopards were ordered mainly for use in Europe during the Cold War. The C1 was the equivalent of the German 1A3. These were later upgraded to C2 standard by fitting of surplus Leopard 1A5 turrets. This is one of two donated to the Tank Museum directly from the Canadian Army when the tank force reduced from 114 to 66 in the mid-2000s. A regular performer, it is seen in the Kuwait Arena during TankFest 2019 The Tank Museum, Bovington Camp, Dorset, UK.
