Description

Pigs are traditional symbols of wealth in Vanuatu - but they are not well treated. Chiefs gain or lose status based on how effectively they kill pigs during important ceremonies.

In the newspaper today there is a story reporting that the Chinese and New Zealand embassies gave high quality boars to the Prime Minister in a formal ceremony, but the French only brought a sow while the Australians didn't bring a pig at all.
