Gedenktafel - Text: Im Mittelalter der Hohe Markt - Hier stand im 15.Jahrhundert das Leinwandhaus, die Verkaufsstelle und Börse der Leinwandhändler und das Zunfthaus der Schuster, das Schuhhaus, begrenzt vom Linnengässchen und der Schranne. Beide Zunfthäuser wurden im 16. u. 17. Jahrhundert als Schuldenarrest und Richtstätte verwendet. 1861 erstand ein neues Gebäude das 1877 von der Ersten österreichischen Spar-Casse erworben wurde. Dieses fiel 1945 Bomben und Feuer zum Opfer und wurde in den Jahren 1949/50 aufgebaut, wobei die Camesinagasse, früher Linnengässchen, in die Baufläche einbezogen wurde. ELTZ WELZ Lt. "Historisches Lexikon Wien" (Band 4/1995), von Felix Czeike ist die Behauptung, dass sich im 16.u.17.Jahrhundert Schuldenarrest im Leinwandhaus befunden habe, ist nicht zu beweisen. |
