English: Legging, one of pair (see U0203.3) Leather leggings, Anglo Boer War. Worn by 4037 Sgt Neil G McLeod, 7th NZ Mounted Rifles. Tan leather leggings; fasten at top with short strap and buckle; another strap attached near lower edge wraps around leg and is secured by threading through two 'eyelets' top and bottom and looping through two leather loops at one side and fastening to a second buckle at upper edge; markings; gilt lettering inside top- No. B - ANGLO-INDIAN PUTTIE LEGGING. - JEALOUS PATENT 14178. - PATENTED ALL OVER THE WORLD - MADE UNDER LICENSE Missing parts- straps missing; right legging strap is broken off at lower seam, the left legging strap has broken off leaving approximately one inch attached to lower leg.

Notes leather leggings, Anglo Boer War Worn by 4037 Sgt Neil G McLeod, 7th NZ Mounted Rifles. After leaving secondary school Neil Gloster McLeod worked as an electrician-electrical engineer with the Auckland Tramway Company. He was only eighteen when he enlisted as a sergeant with No 21 Company, 7th Contingent New Zealand Mounted Rifles (listing his occupation as perambulator maker) and embarked aboard the Gulf of Taranto which left for South Africa from Wellington on 6 April 1901. Neil McLeod was subsequently promoted as Lieutenant serving with the 9th Contingent and also served as a Staff Sergeant with the Cape Police before returning to New Zealand where he resumed his electrical and engineering career.
