Description

An Ancient Roman inscribed altar, 175–225AD, made for domestic use. It was found at Cataractonium, at Catterick, North Yorkshire]], England. Libations and other offerings were put on the top of the altar. The Latic inscription says: "To the mother goddesses of the household, Julius Victor willingly and deservedly fulfilled his vow for himself and his family". This item is on loan from the York Museum.
