Description |
Page 6 of MS 411/3 - "On lucky and unlucky days", part of "Leech Books, VIII" Late 15th century
Written in the same clear book hand throughout, with some later additions: 31 lines to a page. The Lunar Table on fol. 51 is in red and black. The MS. has been refoliated in pencil. Physical description: 1 volume In vellum covers from a leaf of a 14th century missal in double column, with ornamental initials in red and blue. In a morocco bound box case. Contemporary signatures, of which a1, a12, b11, b12, c11 are wanting: sig. d is doubled. Some corners defective, and margins frayed. Notes: The box case is lettered at the back 'Stanford MSS. c. 1450'. This may refer to the Library of Sir Thomas Winnington [1811-1872] of Stanford Court, though it is not recorded in the First Appendix to the First Report of the Historical Manuscripts Commission 1870, pp. 53-55. Nor does it appear in their Tenth Report, Appendix VI, 1887, pp. 104-252, which concerned the Stanford Hall Library, belonging to Lord Braye [1849-1928]. Anglo saxon letter forms in Moorat's catalogue description (such as contraction marks and Thorn and yogh symbols) have been replaced with Latin characters. (MS 411) Archives & Manuscripts |
