Description
English: Leavitt Institute building, Turner Center, Maine. A gift by Turner native and New York City businessman James Madison Leavitt endowed the building of the Leavitt Institute, a secondary school which graduated its first class in 1896. The last class graduated from the Institute in 1966. The school later took the name of the Leavitt Area High School and relocated to other quarters in Turner, Maine. Today the Leavitt Institute houses the Turner Public Library and the Turner Historical Museum.
