Description
English: Leaving Waverley, cab-first For many years in the 1980s and 90s, it was the practice to use 'push-pull' sets such as these on the Edinburgh - Glasgow shuttle service. The locomotive (usually a class 47, suitably modified for remote control) would be at the Edinburgh end, and at the Glasgow end a driving trailer (passenger coach with a driver's cab). Here, trailer no. 9710 heads the 09.00 service to Queen Street out of Waverley. The practice had resulted in the deaths of 13 passengers in the Polmont accident Polmont_rail_accident after which driving trailers like this had to be modified, or the practice stopped.
