From: Alan Stanton To: Haringey Environment Department Cc: Bruce Grove ward councillors Sent: Tuesday, January 22, 2013 12:13 AM Subject: Defaced, damaged. leaning height restriction column, near 1 St Loys Road N17

Please see my two photos posted on Flickr. I've previously drawn attention to the dumping by a litter bin and another column near the front door of Bucky's News 1 St Loy's Road N17 6UB.

Can I please now ask for action on the column shown in the photos - which I have deliberately not reported before now.

It's an illuminated height limit warning which applies to the railway bridge some 65 metres further west along St Loy's Road.

I've added a screenshot from Google Maps - which you can access using this link. bit.ly/11MGgSV

As you'll see from the photos, the column has a missing baseplate and it doesn't seem to be illuminated. The warning sign is dirty and partly defaced. It has been that way for many months - well before July 2012, the date on the Google photo. Since at least July 2012 the column has been leaning; the paving below it cracked. Both the leaning column and the paving suggest that a vehicle may have mounted the pavement and pushed against it. Though this is only my guess.

1. Whatever the cause, you'll see from the Google view that the width restriction column is probably useless. For a driver turning into St Loy's Road from High Road Tottenham, there are three columns and the height restriction one is at the rear, damaged, and probably not clearly visible. The height column either needs to be repaired, or removed as redundant.

2. I'm also concerned that the column has been damaged for at least six months (and probably defaced far longer). I wonder whether it has ever been reported for repair?

Please bear in mind too that following the riot in Tottenham, the Bruce Grove section of the High Road has been an important focus of the Council's work. Most recently with a Working Group chaired by Cllr Stuart McNamara. It has also been Council policy for several years to reduce street furniture clutter.

Of course, this is very basic, boring, bread-and-butter stuff. Nothing to do with new bicycle routes and award-winning DIY streets projects. Even so, it should be obvious*. And shouldn't need reporting by a councillor.
