Description
English: Leaf bud of Sliver Birch (Betula pendula), showing imbricate cataphylls. This specimen is from nursery stock, so the species identification should not be taken too seriously; the picture is mainly to illustrate the cataphylls.

This plant grew in the winter rainfall region of South Africa, where it is an alien, grown as an ornamental. It does acceptably there in spite of the mild winters.
