Lead papal bull of Honorius
Description
English: A lead papal bulla, dating to the late thirteenth century (1285-1287). Such bullae were used to seal official documents from the papacy. It is flat and oval. On one surface are the letters SPASPE. Below the lettering, on the right is the head of St Peter; that of St Paul is not visible. St Peter appears to have a high forehead, with dots representing hair and a beard. On the underside the letters HONORIVS P IV are visible. The bulla measures 31mm in length and 35mm in width. It is 4mm thick.
