Title
Lead Papal bull of Pope Innocent VII (1404-6).
Description
English: Complete cast circular lead seal with a design on either face, in almost perfect condition. Diameter 36mm and 7mm thick. Weight 41.73g. Seal of Pope Innocent VII (1404-1406). First side: Busts of St Peter and St Paul are each within an inverted pear-shaped compartment defined by pellets. On the right, St Peter's beard and hair are shown to be curly by the use of pellets. On the left, St Paul's hair and beard are portrayed as being straight. Above the busts is an inscription SPA SPE. Second side: Inscription INNO/CENTIVS/PP VII. There is an omega above PP. A mullet of seven points is positioned above the inscription. There was probably a similar mullet below the inscription. However this seems to be obscured due to slight damage which does not appear to be recent. Both sides of the bull have a circle of pellets around the periphery. The hole for the cord which attached the seal to the bulla remains intact. The find has a pale buff appearance.

Inscription SPA SPE INNO/CENTIVS/PP VII. PP = 'pastor pastorum' - shepherd of the shepherds.
