Description

Bizerte ou Benzart (بنزرت) est une ville du nord de la Tunisie située entre la mer Méditerranée et le lac de Bizerte. Elle est le chef-lieu d'un gouvernorat peuplé de plus d'un demi-million d'habitants... En dépit de relations souvent pacifiques entre les communautés européenne et musulmane, la ville de Bizerte a été un haut lieu de la résistance au colonialisme.... Le 13 janvier 1952, c'est lors d'un meeting populaire à Bizerte qu'Habib Bourguiba lance l'appel à la lutte armée afin d'accéder à l'indépendance. Cet appel lui vaut d'être arrêté avec d'autres chefs nationalistes le 18 janvier, prélude au congrès clandestin du Néo-Destour proclamant la lutte armée pour l'indépendance. ors du déclenchement de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Bizerte est l'un des plus importants ports militaires de la Méditerranée.
