Niveau d'occupation romaine sur la colline de Byrsa Centre de la nouvelle fondation décidée par César et réalisée par Auguste à partir de 44 avant J. -C., puis agrandie par Hadrien et Antonin au IIe s. ap. J. C., le forum couvrait toute la plate-forme du sommet de la colline de Byrsa. Autour d'une vaste cour entourée d'une colonnade et peuplée de statues et de dédicaces, s'élevaient d'un côté, probablement à l'ouest, le capitole, et à l'est, la basilique civile dont les fondations fouillées laissent apparaître d'énormes absides de soutènement.
