Le Satyre Marsyas pendu S'étant mesuré à Apollon lors d'un concours musical, le satyre Marsyas a été condamné par Apollon à être écorché vif. C'est une évocation de la victoire de la culture (Apollon et sa lyre) sur la nature (le satyre Marsyas, mi-homme, mi-bête et son aulos, le hautbois double antique). Marbre veiné violet Sculpture trouvée en 2009 dans les fouilles de la villa delle Vignacce, située dans une zone entre la via Appia et la via Tuscolana au sud de Rome. Ce thème mythologique a été très souvent représenté par les artistes depuis l'Antiquité jusqu'à la Renaissance. Le centre d'exposition des musées du Capitole dans l'ancienne centrale thermoélectrique Giovanni Montemartini à Rome est un exemple étonnant d'un site industriel transformé en musée. Il a ouvert en 1997 avec l'installation de centaines de sculptures antiques. Cette centrale électrique, mise en fonctionnement au début des années 1900, a été la première à Rome.
