Description

On lui donna onze arches .

In the 12th century, when Hugh was lord of MONTRICHARD under the protection of KingHenry II of England, it was decided to build a bridge over the Cher. Facing the tower, the oldford. He was given eleven arches. The arches can be cut in times of war, without the destruction of a span was the other bend. On the left bank, we used an old arm of the Cher, we made a semi-circular ditch which defended the approaches to the bridge. Dear old or old arches still mark the end of this entrenchment. The eleventh ark will not be built in stone, but timber easily dismantled if an enemy appears. During the reign of Louis XIV in 1670, were undertaken repairs to the bridge, which made him lose its defense apparatus.

In June 1940, the fourth arch from the right, was dynamited.
