Photo prise dans l'exposition "Paris et ses expositions universelles, architectures, 1855-1937" à la Conciergerie (Centre des Monuments Nationaux) Le pavillon finlandais de l'Exposition universelle de 1900 à Paris a été conçu par le grand architecte finlandais Eliel Saarinen (1878-1950). flickr.com/photos/dalbera/233130177/ Le peintre Axel Gallèn-Kallela (ou Akseli Gallen-Kallela) y a réalisé les fresques du hall d'entrée (détruites à la fin de l'exposition et en partie repeintes dans les années 1920 dans le hall du musée national à Helsinki) www.flickr.com/photos/dalbera/2759758207/in/set-721576067... Ce pavillon, conçu dans le plus pur style art nouveau finlandais, a été un plaidoyer pour la Finlande alors sous domination russe. Les plus grands artistes finlandais ont contribué à sa réalisation. "Ce pavillon a fait connaître aux Européens l'art, l'éducation et les activités économiques de la Finlande, il leur a fait prendre conscience des aspirations du peuple finlandais à l'indépendance"(Erkki Fredrikson). On observe sur le coté droit de la tour centrale, l'aigle à deux têtes de la Russie impériale qui avait été imposé par les Russes. Ce signe de domination par une puissance étrangère (la Finlande était un Grand-Duché autonome de la Russie) a été effacé sur la plupart des photos du pavillon qui ont circulé à l'époque en Finlande. www.monuments-nationaux.fr/fr/les-actualites/les-evenemen...
