Le palier du premier étage du palazzo Grassi avec l'oeuvre "Escalator (Rainbow Rain)" de Vidya Gastaldon, 2007 Courtesy the artist and Art Concept, Paris Collection Pinault Site officiel du Palazzo Grassi www.palazzograssi.it/fr "Escalator (Rainbow Rain)" fait partie de l'exposition "L'illusion des lumières" présentée au Palazzo Grassi jusqu'en janvier 2015. Le Palazzo Grassi a été conçu par le grand architecte vénitien Giorgo Massari (1687-1766), les travaux ont débuté en 1745 après le rachat par les frères Grassi de plusieurs maisonnettes autour de l'église San Samuele. On considère souvent ce bâtiment de style néo-classique comme le dernier grand palais vénitien. Le plan du palais est de forme trapézoïdale, il s'organise autour d'une cour carrée. Cette structure est différente de celle qui était utilisée jusqu'alors à Venise car elle distribue les pièces et salons de part et d'autre de la cour au lieu de les disposer dans la longueur totale de l'édifice. Un escalier monumental, se dédoublant à mi-hauteur dessert les étages. Des fresques de Michelangelo Morlaiter et de Francesco Zanchi décorent l'escalier. Elles représentent des scènes de réception. Un bas-relief "Allegoria della Concordia" de M. Morlaiter décore le premier palier intermédiaire. D'autres fresques et décors sont attribués à l'école de Tiepolo, à Fabio Canal ou à un peintre du XIXè siècle : Christian Griepenkerl comme le Triomphe de Neptune et Amphitrite (1874). Le palais a été vendu par la famille Grassi en 1840, divers propriétaires s'y sont succédés dont le dernier est la fondation François Pinault qui a confié la restauration et l'aménagement au célèbre architecte Tadao Ando pour en faire un centre d'art contemporain. |
