Le grand lac vu depuis le jardin de la villa Liebermann En 1909, Max Liebermann fait construire une maison d'été au bord du lac "Wannsee". Après avoir passé tous ses étés en Hollande où il peint de très nombreuses oeuvres, Wannsee devient pour lui un refuge loin de Berlin et de son agitation. Plus de 200 toiles ont été créées dans le parc de sa villa. En 1940, à cause des origines juives de la famille, sa veuve est dépossédée par le régime national-socialiste de la villa qui, après la guerre, en 1951, est rendue à la fille de l'artiste. Elle est ensuite vendue à la ville de Berlin par les héritiers et ce n'est qu'en 1997 que la villa peut devenir un musée. Après une longue période de travaux pour restituer l'ensemble selon les plans d'origine, la villa et son parc sont ouverts au public en avril 2006 avec l'aide de nombreux donateurs et bénévoles.
