Description

Le grand escalier Mortimer Sackler, donateur du musée

L'escalier principal comprend 90 marches, il mène du sous-sol au deuxième étage à l'entrée de l'exposition. Il est volontairement abrupt et chaotique avec des poutres qui le transpercent, il symbolise la longue histoire des Juifs allemands.

L'architecte américain, d'origine juive, Daniel Libeskind, a su trouver une harmonie entre l'organisation et la structure du bâtiment et le contenu de ce musée qui porte sur l'histoire des juifs allemands et sur le rôle joué par le judaïsme en Allemagne.

C'est une réalisation exemplaire à plusieurs titres car bien peu de bâtiments construits pour abriter un musée atteignent une telle cohérence avec les objectifs de l'établissement muséographique.
