Description
Français : Le cimetière marin a été implanté, en 1788, sur ce site de la Baie de Saint-Paul, premier lieu de peuplement par les français de l'Île de la Réunion (appelée à l'époque Île Bourbon). Il comprend dans sa partie nord les sépultures de vieilles familles de Saint-Paul : les Panon, Desbassyns, Delanux, Desjardins, KerAnval,..ou de personnes décédées lors de leur passage comme Eraste Feuillet ou les marins du bâteau naufragé Ker.Anna.

Le cimetière a subi une série de catastrophes naturelles depuis le raz de marée d'août 1883 provoqué par l'éruption du volcan de Krakatoa jusqu'aux cyclones récents. Il a été restauré dans les années 70.

Les restes mortels du grand poète, Leconte de Lisle, né à Saint-Paul en 1818 et mort à Louveciennes en 1894 y ont été transférés en 1977.
