Notes | The 'Chansons Politiques de P.J. de Béranger' were published by P.J. de Béranger in 1815. In 1828 Baudouin published an illustrated edition with vignettes by Devéria and illustrations by Monnier. This edition was so successful that other editions were published in the following decades (see: Marie 1931, p.265 n.651-758), always with illustrations by and after Monnier. In the first edition of 1828, not all the 'chansons' were illustrated. Other illustrations were published as supplement of the edition of 1828, and some of them complete the missing illustrations. The edition quoted by Champfleury (364) refers not to 1842 but to 1828. The present print was published in the edition of 1828 (I, p.13), and is part of the illustrations which were published separately. Yvetot is a French town located in the Department of the 'Seine Maritime', in Normandy. Beranger popularized the character of the 'Roi d'Yvetot'. In the 16th century there was a lord in Yvetot who pretended to be a king , but without any link to the feudal system. It seems that there were several sovereigns who claimed this title (see: Serge Couasnon, 'Le petit roi d'Yvetot', 2005). | |||||||||||||||||||||||

[edit]This image is in the public domain because it is a mere mechanical scan or photocopy of a public domain original, or – from the available evidence – is so similar to such a scan or photocopy that no copyright protection can be expected to arise. The original itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag. Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag. |
