In this square - Place St Jean de Malte is Musee Granet and L'Eglise St-Jean de Malte. There is also a library with old and new books. This musuem is Le Musee Granet. We had hoped to go there, but we went on a Monday when it was closed. We waited until 2pm (local time) and it didn't open. My book says it is open Tuesday to Sunday. The Granet Museum is situated in the former Priory of Knights of Malta and named after the Provencal painter Granet (1775-1849) who was its main donor. It exhibits vestiges of Roman Aix and works by Rembrant, Ingres and Cezanne and the remarkable gift from Cezanne to Giacometti.
Clearly says in French that it was closed on Monday's (open Tuesday to Sunday each week). On our other days in Provence, we were out touring, so by the time we got back there wouldn't have been time to go back here. Instead that day we went to the Tapestry Museum in the old Archbishops Palace. This is in the Mazarin Quarter. |
