May 4, 2011, Madawaska (Maine), Edmunston (New Brunswick) Consul General Peter O’Donohue attends preparatory meetings for the 2014 World Acadian Congress

As the U.S. representative to the Council of Government liaisons for the 2014 World Acadian Congress, Consul General Peter O’Donohue traveled to Maine and New Brunswick, where he attended a number of preparatory meetings, namely a meeting with the Executive members of the Official Organizing Committee. Mr. O’Donohue also joined representatives from the Canadian Government and the Provincial Governments of Quebec and New Brunswick and State Representatives from Maine. Held every five years, the World Acadian Congress is expected to draw more than 50.000 thousand visitors to the cross-border region to celebrate Acadian and Cajun culture and history. The budget of the 2014 event is approximately $13 million and its organizers anticipate it will create economic benefits for the region amounting to $50 million dollars.
