Description
English: Portrait of Lawrence Shackleford Holt of Burlington, North Carolina. The youngest son of North Carolina industrialist Edwin Michael Holt, Lawrence S. Holt founded North Carolina's largest bank, the Commercial National Bank of Charlotte, which Holt founded with his father and brothers. The Holt family held the majority of the bank's capital stock. Thomas M. Holt, the brother of Lawrence S. Holt, served as Governor of the State of North Carolina, and was a leading industrialist as well. The family owned cotton mills and other ventures throughout the state.
