English: Latvia 1914 cover. Russian 3+1 Kop. perf.11 and 7+1 Kop. perf.13 War Charity issues on cover tied by machine cancel RIGA 18.12.1914 to Glimminge, Sweden. Opened by Russian censor in Petrograd, backside purple oval marking. In 1905 the ' Krag Maskin Fabrik' of Oslo introduced a cancellation-machine. This machine made it possible to cancel 600 items per minute. After the introduction in Russia (1906, St. Petersburg and Helsinki), the device was introduced in Riga. According to Marcilger June 19, 1908 is the first known date of the Riga machine cancel. 7 different types were used in Riga from 1908-1917, with differences in horizontal lines, stars and date marking, all used at different time frames. The shown cancel is type 5, (8 horizontal lines, 2 stars and points in the date)) and was used from 13 VIII 1913 to 29 V 1915 (or 16-8-1916). The bottom 8th line misses.
