Title
Late medieval gilded annular buckle
Description
English: A copper alloy annular buckle with a central bar dating from the late medieval period. It has a diameter of 64.9mm and is 7.8mm thick. The frame is wide and is decorated with oval hollows arranged as one central one alternated with two set off the edges of the frame. The ovals are gilded. The central bar is square in section and the pin survives wrapped around the bar. The reverse is plain. The buckle probably dates from the fifteenth century. Similar examples can be seen on page 46 of Whitehead (1996).
