Late medieval coin: soldino issued by Doge Michele Steno
Description
English: An incomplete silver Venitian soldino issued by Doge Michele Steno (AD 1400-1413). Type A.

Obverse: Doge standing left, holding a standard in both hands and a six-pointed star over G in the field. Inscription: [MICHAEL ]STE IN [DVX.]

Reverse: Winged and nimbate lion of Saint Mark facing in a sitting position (the Coat of Arms of the City of Venice). Inscription: S.]MARCV[[S VENETI.] Mint name: Venice.

These coins were illegally circulated in England often entering the country from Galley Wharf on the River Thames in London and were called 'Galley halfpence'.
