Late Saxon lead weight
Description
English: Late Saxon Lead weight, crude square-sectioned trapezoidal (width 15mm, height 15mm) with rectangular depression in top. Weighs 23.26g, 0.82oz, 359.0grains, which is close to the ‘significant’ weight of 26.6g identified from 200 examples from Dublin (Mainman and Rogers 2000, Finds from Anglo-Scandinavian York, 2563). The weight could possibly have had something inserted into the depression in the upper surface, Kruse in Medieval Archaeology 1992.
