English: Late Saxon incomplete copper alloy harness cheek-piece, broken, worn and corroded, (probably) central stem with rectangular loop at apex and boss where springing from remains of elaborate openwork body, boss at trefoil projection on surviving shoulder, >39 x >45mm, 7-10mm thick. Late 10th-early 11 century. Cf. Broadly similar examples in Pederson 1997-8 'Bidselbesag fra Bøgeskov Strand' KUML (Denmark), fig.3, no.1, and figs.4 and 5. See also LIN-F9F9E6 on this database. |
