Title
Late Roman door knob spear butt
Description
English: Roman spear butt; cast copper alloy door knob type spear ferrule, probably dating to the late Roman or early Early Medieval period. The butt has a large, hollow, flattened circular base with a narrow, cylindrical shaft which flares slightly towards the top end. There is a ridge at the joint of the shaft and the base. Sections of the mouth of the shaft are missing. The whole has a tactile, dark brown patina over its surface, although the surface is missing in many places and patches of pale green copper corrosion can be seen.
