Title |
Late Post Medieval: D shaped Buckle |
||
Description |
English: Fragment of a cast lead alloy (possibly pewter) D shaped buckle of probable later post medieval date (1650 -1750 AD). The buckle frame is incomplete, it is irregular in plan and D shaped in cross section. An integral cast pin rest is present on one face of the frame and this is flanked with detailed floral patterns. The style of this decoration suggests a post restoration date. The reverse face of the frame is plain, apart from deep incised file marks on all surface. The metal is a mid grey black colour with an uneven surface patina. The abraded edges are flaking / laminating with corrosion.
The buckle frame measures 20.6mm length, 27.3mm width is 3.3mm thick and weighs 3.57 grams. |
