Title |
Late Medieval to Post Medieval socketed candlestick holder |
||
Description |
English: late Medieval or early Post Medieval candle holder, cast in copper alloy. This socketed candle holder is incomplete with worn breaks at the base where an integrally cast loop would have been attached. The holder has been squashed, but originally would have been hexagonal, with a more rounded inside edge. There is a subrectangular openwork design with a circle above, which is present on two opposing faces of the candle holder. The surface is slightly abraded. It has a pale brown patina with small mid-green patches. The holder is 33.14mm long with a diameter of 18.64mm at the base. The squashed end is 27.06mm wide and 11.45mm thick. It weighs 15.43 grams. |
