Title
Late Medieval or early Post Medieval buckle frame
Description
English: Late Medieval or early Post Medieval cast copper-alloy single-looped buckle frame. The frame is sub trapezoid with rounded outer corners and a slightly concave outer side. The strap bar is narrowed. The upper and lower sides widen and thicken from the strap bar to the longer outer edge. The outer edge is even in width along its length but slightly concave and thins towards the centre leaving the outer corners as the thickest point. The upper and lower sides and strap bar are trapezoid in section with a wider back which the centre of the outer side becomes triangular with an angled front and flat inner edge and back. The three sides (excluding the strap bar) are decorated with regular spaced incised diagonal lines. It is 38.6mm long, 22.3mm wide and 4.7mm thick; it weighs 6.93 grams.

Margeson (1993:27) illustrates a very similar example complete with plate and pin. she suggests this form is a 15th to 16th century development (ibid:25).
