Title
Late Iron Age La Tene III brooch
Description
English: A late Iron Age La Tene III copper alloy 'simple one-piece' 'Nauheim derivative' brooch (Circa 10-100 AD). The brooch would typically have had a bilateral four-turn spring, but only one turn remains and the pin is missing. The rod bow has a circular cross-section that tapers to the foot which has a solid catchplate. The tip of the foot is broken. The copper alloy has a dark green patina. Other Nauheim-derivative brooches have been found during the military occupation at sites such as Usk and Castleford (Manning 1995:64-66 fig 22 & Cool & Philo 1998:34-5). Dimensions: length: 31.37mm; width: 3.59mm; weight: 3.13g. Reference: Bayley, J. and Butcher, S. 2004. Roman Brooches in Britain. The Society of Antiquaries, London. P. 53-54. Manning, W. H. 1995.
