Summary
[edit]DescriptionLast riverside factories - geograph.org.uk - 216521.jpg |
English: View of the Cable Depot, built in 1882-83 as part of the General Post Office submarine cable depot. It contains/contained four circular 11m-diameter cast-iron tanks on 92cm-thick concrete foundations where submarine telegraph cables were stored under water. It is now used as a car parts store. These sheds represented a missing link in the Thames Path which made a diversion inland to get round them (mended in 2018). Photographed in 2006 from the disused ferry jetty alongside. |
