This memorial, to both those who starved to death in Ireland and the many who migrated to the U.S. in the mid 19th century, was commissioned and erected by the County of Westchester, NY in cooperation with an executive committee of Irish descendants who helped raise money for the memorial. It is located in "Great Hunger Park" off the Saw Mill River Parkway and connects the North and South County Trailways, which includes bicycle paths, picnic areas and beautiful water areas, all free for the residents of the County. It is an extremely moving sculpture. The boy in the picture is looking at a basket of skulls, representing the rotten potatoes that were the inedible main food of the Irish people at that time.
