Title
English: Large fir log headed to the Stimson Mill Company, ca. 1900
Description
English:

Members of the Stimson family relocated their logging business from Michigan to Seattle in 1889, purchasing timberlands throughout the region and an existing lumber mill on Salmon Bay, in Ballard. The Stimson Mill Company was incorporated in 1890, and soon produced lumber, lath, and shingles. Here, in a photograph taken by Everett photographer George W. Kirk, a workman marks the butt end of a large fir log destined for the Ballard mill. Kirk was based in Everett between 1898 and 1901.
