Accidental injury of a young autistic woman who complied with an unsafe request

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Automatic obedience can be a health and safety concern in autistic people. This young woman automatically complied when told to hurry while getting into a car on uneven terrain; she fell hard onto a metal object. Compliance-based therapies such as ABA may increase the risk of autistic people obeying unsafe demands. Assertiveness training, discussions about using one's best judgment, and attentive caregivers may help reduce the risk of excessive and dangerous compliance.
