A Lapa do Santo é um sítio arqueológico localizado na região de Lagoa Santa em Minas Gerais. Apresenta um rico registro da cultura material dos grupos que habitaram o Brasil central durante Holoceno Inicial, Médio e Final. Dezenas de sepultamentos humanos foram encontrados na Lapa do Santo. O Sepultamento 19 era composto pelos ossos de um único indivíduo sub-adulto que foram enterrados numa cova circular e que não apresentavam lógica anatômica aparente. Sobre os ossos foi depositada uma camada de blocos de calcário, como é possível observar nessa imagem Marcas de corte são incisões milimétricas que podem ser estudadas ao microscópio eletrônico. É possível determinar se uma da incisão de fato é ou não uma marca de corte bem como determinar qual material foi usado para realizar o corte (e.g. lasca de pedra ou faca de bambu ou faca de metal?). No caso da Lapa do Santo as análises indicam que os cortes eram feitos com lascas de pedra - possívelmente quartzo. Isso é compatível com a presença no sítio de milhares de lascas centimétricas. Entretanto, no caso das incisões do parietal do Sepultamento 19, mostrada em detalhes nessa imagem, elas não são compatíveis com marcas de corte pois tem um 'perfil' com vale muito plano. A origem exata dessas marcas não é conhecida mas poderiam decorrer do atrito do osso com os blocos que foram colocados por cima do esqueleto. |
