Summary

[edit]
Description

Lange Nelle is a 65 meter tall lighthouse east of the Ostend harbor and one of four still operational along the coast of Belgium - the three others are in er Nieuwpoort , Blankenberge and Heist.

The current lighthouse has been in use since 1948, replacing an older lighthouse that was damaged during World War One. It was painted in its current white and blue colors in 1998 and can use gas to keep the light going, in case of a power failure. On a clear day the light can be seen 27 nautical miles or 50 km away.
