Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Landscape Destruction or Engineering Triumph? Built in the early 1970's after much controversy, the M40 motorway cuts through the Chilterns escarpment to drop to the Oxfordshire plain below. Almost forty years later, the chalk scar still refuses to heal completely (see my photograph 1676761). This is the view that features in numerous television programmes, notably The Vicar of Dibley which was filmed in the nearby village of Turville.
