But evidently, during the lapse of such aperiod, a great part of the potential reserves will become available forthe industry by reason of the extension of communications and the pro-gress of our technical knowledge—they will pass to the actual group inthe same manner as also a great portion of the hitherto unknown orereserves in the districts belonging to groups B and C will be possibkto draw upon. To what extent the future production of iron will become depen-dent upon low-grade ores, and also upon the progress of our technicalknowledge, by which iron ores that are at present valueless (i.e.,potential ore reserves) may be utilized, becomes still more apparentfrom the table below showing the comparatively small remainingsupplies of ores which contain more than 60 per cent, of iron. « MT is used to represent one million tons.
