| Description |
Deutsch: Das Französische Tor, südliches Tor der nach ca. 90 Jahren 1871 vom neuen Deutschen Kaiserreich geschliffene Vauban-Festung (1688-1691) der Stadt Landau in der Pfalz. Der Bau ist mit dem Deutschen Tor völlig identisch. Eines der wenigen erhaltenen Teile der Festung Landau, die durch den Baumeister Vauban gebaut wurde. Die triumphbogenartige Schaufront auf der Außenseite zeigt das strahlenumgränzte Porträt des französischen Sonnenkönigs Ludwig XIV. und den lateinichen Leitspruch: Nec pluribus impar (auch mehreren gewachsen). Das Bauwerk beherbergt heute ein Café/Bistro. |
